Mission

TampaRep creates transformative, relevant, and compelling professional theatre that connects our diverse audience and artists through meaningful and inspiring shared experiences.

Vision

TampaRep’s vision is to be a thriving regional theatre, built on creative excellence and inclusivity, which enhances Tampa as a cultural destination and enriches and reflects our community as an artistic home for all to discover, share, create, and experience meaningful stories.

Artistic Intent

TampaRep produces theatre with an emphasis on American drama. We create an experience — one that the audience completes — in productions that are innovative, provocative, and classic.

Core Values

  • Creative Excellence We are committed to the highest standards of excellence.

We endeavor to exceed the ordinary by providing world-class plays produced with the highest artistic standards. We strive for integrity and excellence in our artistry, administration, and engagement with our valued community.

  • Community – We provide broad community access to the theatre and its programs.

We believe that theatre has the power to transform us by telling stories that inspire our strength, vulnerability, and understanding of ourselves and others, fostering collaboration, meaningful conversation, and ultimately connection. We seek to share stories that celebrate, illuminate, and enrich our humanity, cultivate empathy and imagination, and unify us in both our diversity and commonality by bringing to life new ideas and experiences told from many perspectives.

  • AccountabilityWe are dedicated to ethical and fiscal accountability and sustainability.

We respect the transformative power of storytelling on the human mind and spirit and believe that it is our responsibility to treat all individuals with dignity and respect: our artists, our staff, and our community. We value impeccable fiscal stewardship and operational responsibility, which respect our resources and ensure the stability and growth of the organization. We are accountable for serving and preserving an artistic ecosystem for artists and our patrons built on a culture of integrity, equity, respect, active listening, safety, and open communication that is inclusive, expansive, responsive, and effective.

  • Inclusivity – We believe that the theatre is for everyone. Period.

We create an equitable culture within our organization that welcomes any person to engage with us. We aspire to cultivate awareness and understanding of other perspectives. We will amplify the voices of our multi-generational, culturally diverse community by expanding the stories we tell to reflect all people. We actively seek to invite all to participate in the creation and enjoyment of the arts with us. And we will always make theatre financially accessible to those who need it.

  • Joy We cultivate an artistic environment that fosters experimentation and creativity.

TampaRep believes in the power and importance of theatre. We find joy in our relationships with our artists and our community, providing opportunities for artists to create and work, and in our artistic process. We seek to share our passion for humanity with others through stories that challenge, move, delight, uplift, and engage.

  • Arts Education – We promote education and professional development.

We strive to be a thriving cultural partner through our education and outreach initiatives in our community. We are committed to providing quality theatre arts education programs for children and adults. The broadened perspectives, skills, and sensitivities developed through creative expression and storytelling will equip them more fully wherever their interests and talents may lead them.

History

TampaRep’s first production took place in July, 2011 — Alcestis, a Greek tragedy by Euripides. During our first year, we produced Cold Storage and celebrated our one-year anniversary with a production of A Streetcar Named Desire. TRT2, TampaRep’s incubator company, also presented three productions: Musings of a “Postmodern” RomanticTartuffe, and Tampa Wrights: One-Act Plays by Tampa Playwrights.   Now in our 14th season, we have continued to present a mix of plays, from the classic (Hamlet) to the contemporary (Straight White Men),  along with our American focus, notably with a series of plays by Tennessee Williams:  StreetcarThe Glass Menagerie, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Arthur Miller: award-winning productions of All My Sons and The Crucible, and a seldom-produced classic, Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh.

TampaRep: Innovative. Provocative. Classic.
