Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Do you hire AEA actors?
-
Yes. TampaRep works with both union (AEA) and non-union actors. In the past, we engaged AEA performers under Special Appearance or Guest Artist contracts. Going forward, we are excited to work with the new Independent Theatre Contract, which better supports our collaborations with professional actors.
-
- Do you hire out-of-town actors?
-
Yes, we do occasionally hire out-of-town actors. However, as a Tampa-based and Tampa-centric theatre company, our strong preference is to collaborate with artists who are based in the greater Tampa Bay area.
-
- Do you house out-of-town actors?
- We have provided housing for out-of-town actors in the past and anticipate doing so again in the future. That said, because our focus is on working with local talent (see above), housing is not always guaranteed.
- I don’t have much acting experience. Should I audition for TampaRep?
- Everyone starts somewhere, and we respect the courage it takes to step into an audition room. At TampaRep, we look for actors who are ready to take part in the demands of a professional rehearsal and performance process. If you’re just beginning your journey, we ask that you build confidence through classes or other opportunities first. That way, when you do audition with us, you’ll feel prepared to share your skills at their strongest.
Video Submission Guidelines
If you’ve been asked to submit a video audition, thank you for your time! To help us view your work easily and at its best, please follow these guidelines:

-
Framing: Ideally, film standing, framed from the waist up. If sitting, aim for at least chest up.
-
Scene Partners: Keep your scene partner(s) off-camera. Off-screen voices should be clear and balanced with your own.
-
Sharing Your Video: Upload your audition to a video-sharing service (YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) and send us the link. Please don’t email the full video file.
-
Link Settings: Make sure your link is set to unlisted or public, so our team members can access it easily.
-
Submission Steps: Double-check that you’ve filled out the auditions form, and email your video link to auditions@tamparep.org.
-
Deadlines: Unless otherwise noted, video submissions are due at least one day before the in-person audition.
-
Sides & Material:
-
If sides are available for the show, choose the one for the role you’re most interested in.
-
If no sides are posted yet, follow the general audition guidelines for the upcoming season.
-
If neither are available, share a piece that shows us your strengths — something that feels authentically you.

SEEKING
In this “Live Radio Play”, all actors will play exaggerated versions of THEMSELVES voicing the characters in the radio reading of A Christmas Carol. Casting for this show is less about ability to mimic any particular voice as it is the ability to bring characters to life in a way that goes beyond the microphone. Actors will also sing commercial radio jingles and provide additional singing and foley to fill out the audio-scape of the show.

GOD OF CARNAGE
by Yasmina Reza

In this darkly comedic whirlwind, two seemingly civilized couples meet to discuss a playground fight between their sons. SEEKING
VERONICA NOVAK (female, any race/ethnicity, 30-50)
A writer – she pictures herself as the queen of social conscience and common courtesy – but is really judgmental and domineering. As the situation disintegrates, she fails to maintain her crumbling façade of civility.
MICHAEL NOVAK (male, any race/ethnicity, 30-50)
Initially eager to create peace, his uncouth nature is slowly revealed. He makes racial comments, denounces child-raising, and progresses from a seemingly good-natured wholesale supplier/salesperson to a neurotic Neanderthal.
ANNETTE RALEIGH (female, any race/ethnicity, 30-50)
At first presenting herself as an elite member of the one percent, she is actually on the brink of a panic attack. Her self-confidence has been eroded by her husband Alan’s eternal preoccupation with work. (Note – This role requires the actor to believably “vomit” on stage.)
ALAN RALEIGH (male, any race/ethnicity, 30-50)
An openly rude corporate lawyer, he frequently interrupts their meeting by talking on his cell phone. As he says, “I have no manners”. At first seen as cool and aloof, he is sexist and always acts in his own self-interest.
DEAR JACK, DEAR LOUISE
by Ken Ludwig
directed by Robin Gordon
U.S. Army Captain Jack Ludwig, a military doctor stationed in Oregon, begins writing to Louise Rabiner, an aspiring actress and dancer in New York City, hoping to meet her someday if the war will allow. But as the war continues, it threatens to end their relationship before it even starts. Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig (Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, Lend Me a Tenor) tells the joyous, heartwarming story of his parents’ courtship during World War II and the results are anything but expected.

SEEKING
JACK LUDWIG (male, any race/ethnicity but most likely white, 25-35)
A U.S. Army Captain and military doctor during WWII. Reserved and stoic, Jack is a man of few words, displaying quiet strength, duty, and intelligence. He balances professionalism with a sincere emotional core felt through his letters. Jack is initially guarded and distant, shaped by military life and the tragedies of war. As his correspondence with Louise grows, he gradually allows his affection and vulnerability to emerge, offering audiences a nuanced journey from restraint to heartfelt connection.
LOUISE RABINER (female, any race/ethnicity but most likely white, 20-30)
An aspiring actress, singer, and dancer living in New York City. Louise is outgoing, talkative, expressive. She wears her heart on her sleeve and conveys spirited ambition alongside genuine warmth and humor. Louise brings light and theatrical flair to Jack’s more introverted world in contrast and complement to Jack’s steadiness. This role requires vocal variety, comedic timing, and emotional transparency.
